Tequila is one of the most recognized cultural riches of Mexico and its gastronomy. Tequila is an absolute reference in our country and is proudly made in Jalisco. Our fields are covered by the blue mantle of the agaves, which ripen in the sun to later be distilled into this traditional drink that is exported to almost every corner of the world.

The demand for its consumption has accelerated production and standardized agave cultivation and reproduction techniques, planting from cuttings and not from seed. Few tequila houses are committed to the environment and take care of the plant’s maturation process, allowing the growth of the quiote and the subsequent pollination of the flower. This process helps to have a greater genetic variety of the species and would be completely impossible without the help of bats. A few years ago, these animals were on the list of endangered species, but today, thanks to the efforts of countless people and bat-friendly companies such as Tequilera Los Alambiques, the bats have settled and prospered again. This has had a positive impact, resulting in a variety of healthier and more resistant agaves.

This is one of the many reasons why it was necessary to include these important animals in our mural. In it, we integrate elements of Mexican folklore and transform bats into alebrijes, together with one of the most traditional icons in the wixárika cosmogony of Jalisco: the deer.

It was a project that we enjoyed very much throughout the whole process, from the first visit to the factory to the elaboration of the design and subsequent execution on site. This is a mural for posterity that now adorns the facilities of this great tequila company in Arandas, Jalisco.

Una de las riquezas culturales más reconocidas de México es su gastronomía y consecuentemente, su bebida. El tequila es referente absoluto de nuestro país y es orgullosamente jalisciense. Nuestros campos están cubiertos por el manto azul de los agaves, los cuales maduran al sol para después ser destilados en esta tradicional bebida que se exporta a casi todos los rincones del mundo.

La demanda en su consumo ha acelerado la producción y estandarizado las técnicas de cultivo y reproducción del agave, plantando a raíz de esquejes y no de semilla. Son pocas las casas tequileras comprometidas con el medio ambiente y que cuidan el proceso de maduración de la planta para permitir el crecimiento del quiote y la posterior polinización de la flor. Este proceso ayuda a tener una mayor variedad genética de la especie y sería completamente imposible sin la ayuda de los murciélagos. Estos animales, hace unos años, estaban en la lista de especies en peligro de extinción, pero hoy, gracias al esfuerzo de innumerables personas y de empresas bat-friendly como lo es la Tequilera Los Alambiques, los murciélagos se han asentado y prosperado nuevamente. Esto ha repercutido positivamente en una variedad de agaves más sanos y resistentes.

Esta es una de las tantas razones por las que era necesario incluir a estos importantes animales en nuestro mural. En él, integramos elementos de folklor mexicano y transformamos a los murciélagos en alebrijes junto a uno de los íconos más tradicionales en la cosmogonía wixárika de Jalisco: el venado.

Se trató de un proyecto que disfrutamos mucho durante todo el proceso, desde la primera visita a la fábrica hasta la elaboración del diseño y posterior ejecución in situ. Este es un mural para la posteridad que ahora adorna las instalaciones de esta gran tequilera de Arandas, Jalisco.
